On February 8th, Urban Ministries of Durham (UMD) and their agency McKinney launched Spent, an interactive game that challenges players to live a life of poverty for a month - making tough decisions everyday like whether to pay for your mother to see a doctor or your kid to eat a square meal at school. Like many non-profits, UMD hoped to leverage social media and interactive marketing to build awareness for their cause. And with the support of bloggers, tweeters and Facebook posters, they've made huge strides in advancing the public's understanding of what it's like to be homeless, raising some money along the way.
On April 13th, from 6-8pm at McKinney, executives from UMD and their team at McKinney will give an inside look at how they raised awareness for their cause with social media, as part of TIMA's annual Non-Profits and Social Media event.
